My name is Claire and I live in Burbank, CA, with my Indian husband and our two kids. We are a vegetarian family and we love to experiment with lots of new and different foods. This blog usually details our latest culinary experiments in Indian Vegetarian cooking but for 2014 I’m shifting over to a year of salads. It’s a challenge to myself to be sure to eat a salad a day and to see just how much I can mix it up! I am also an avid gardener with lots of garden projects. I will throw in some garden tips on occasion. I hope you will find an interest and maybe become inspired to grow some of your own food. Thanks for joining me on this journey!

Since you love tempeh I thought you would enjoy a little snippet of our story that began back in Michigan in the late 70’s
when I gave my husband a tempeh starter kit that included the organic soybeans, culture and instructions for making them.
Since retiring from our tempeh business we still want to be the good will messengers for spreading the word about tempeh.
We have been involved with a tempeh project and think
that if people learned how to make their own tempeh within their
community this would be a useful step in having people take control
over their food choices by being able to produce a healthy protein
at a reasonable cost.
We recently designed a tempeh incubator that could be used in
restaurants or small shops making artisan tempeh for the local
community or small shops making artisan tempeh for the community. We have found a company that is very
anxious to begin producing the machines and next week we will
receive the prototype to begin final testing. After that they
expect to start manufacturing the tempeh incubators which will
culminate in a 35+ year dream of ours. We will not be involved with
the commercial end of this project (we are both 81) but want to see
how this healthy food could be introduced into interested
communities.
Feel free to write with any questions or comments.
PS We live in Port Hueneme so you might think about driving up the coast sometime and share a tempeh panini with us.

Hello! Thank you for sharing your love of tempeh. I have always wanted to try making it myself, but haven’t done it yet. I would love to taste artisan tempeh. The closest I’ve had was some homemade tempeh that I got at a Malaysian festival in LA a few years back. It was so fresh tasting compared to the packaged types. I love Port Hueneme – I would love to stop by when I’m over there sometime. I have just started a new venture as the Nursery Manager at a local school-based farm. However, this summer I’m hoping my family and I can make it to that area for the weekend. Thanks so much!
